The massacre in Buffalo is painful beyond words. It's heartbreaking that we find ourselves here yet again.

To all DEI Professionals: When you heard the news of this horrific shooting, I can relate to the range of emotions and multiple thoughts running through your mind. Trust me, I’ve been there.

In the midst of your disbelief and grief, you knew that Monday was coming and you would enter a workplace where your organization would ask you questions on how to handle this, co-workers experiencing heartbreak and needing a moment to process and given permission to “not be OK,” and especially watching your Black team members try to navigate business as usual in the aftermath of a televised racial attack.

Listen: It is important that you practice self-care. Most of us in this profession are empaths and we care deeply about the treatment of people.

This is a day of emotion – without a mandated expiration date. So, go ahead answer the questions, provide that listening ear – most importantly feel. Feel what you feel, experience it, lean into it, and give yourself permission to grieve as well.

Unfortunately, life may find us here again and you must take care of yourself in order to pour into others.

Praying for strength for the families of the victims and for us all.

How is your organization honoring Juneteenth?

How is your organization honoring Juneteenth? Marlin Williams • Jun 18, 2022  Juneteenth is not a “2020” phase I will never forget the day: May 25, 2020 George Floyd was murdered. 2020 was the elevated year of the “racial reckoning,” which forced many organizations to evaluate their diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, including the recognition […]
